Exercises for Sciatica Nerve Problems

Press Up - Lie face down on the floor. Position your elbows underneath your shoulders and rest your forearms on the floor. Raise your chest off the floor until you feel a stretch in your lower back. Maintain the stretch for 15 to 30 seconds. You can also perform this in a standing position with your arms against a wall. 

Knees to Chest - Lie face up on the floor or on your bed. Bring both knees toward your chest. Hold onto the backs of your legs and remain in the stretch for 15 to 30 seconds.

Knee to Shoulder - Lie face up on the floor, keeping your left leg straight on the floor. Bring your right knee toward your left shoulder until you feel a stretch in your right hip. Hold and then repeat on the left leg. You can also perform this in a seated position if lying on the floor is uncomfortable.

Pelvic Tilts - Lie face up on the floor with your knees bent and feet flat on the floor. Tilt your hips up until your lower back pressed flat into the floor. Hold for 30 seconds and then tilt your hips down to bring your lower back away from the floor and hold for 15 to 30 seconds. You can also perform this pelvic tilt in a standing position with your back against the wall. 

Number 4 - Lie face up on the floor. Bend your knees and place your feet flat on the floor. Bring your right foot to your left thigh. Gently press your right knee away from you until you feel the stretch in your right hip. Maintain the position for 15 to 30 seconds and then release. Repeat on the left leg. You can also perform this stretch in a seated position and gently press your right knee toward the floor until you feel the stretch.
